I'm not sure what you mean about the shell, but yes,
AIX (it would have been helpful if you mentioned the
version) 3.x uses *two* (2) lockfiles -- or rather,
one lockfile, plus a link to it. If memory serves,
they are something like:
/etc/locks/LCK..tty00
(where "tty00" is the device name), and then the
link would be called:
/etc/locks/tty00
So you have to nail them both.
